1. Bank of England: Award for polymer substrate tender (replacement notes) £5, £10 and £50
  • The Bank of England has awarded De La Rue the majority share of its new polymer substrate tender for the £5, £10 and £50 denominations over the next three years, beginning July 2021. This award is for the replacement notes.
  • De La Rue won a 65% share of the total volume tendered across 3 denominations -  for its SAFEGUARD® polymer substrate.
  • 35% of the share went to CCL Secure for its Guardian™ polymer substrate.
Current Situation in England about the polymer notes in circulation:
  • The majority of supply to the Bank of England has been on Guardian™ so far.
  • The £5 and £10 have been exclusive awarded to CCL Secure since 2014 and all the £5 / £10 notes currently in circulation are on Guardian™ by CCL Secure.
  • For the £50, CCL Secure won 55% of the first call off which will be used to support the launch of the new note in 2021.
  • CCL Secure is the majority supplier for the £20 having secured 75% share in both the first and second call offs.

2. Capo Verde: New 200 Escudos - change to cotton substrate
  • On Jan. 8, 2021 the Central Bank of Cabo Verde (Banco de Cabo Verde) will put a new note of 200 Escudos on cotton substrate into circulation.
  • The new 200 Escudos banknote comes from the Bank of Cape Verde's decision to standardize the 2014 banknote family, in circulation, on cotton substrate.
  • The new cotton based note is going to be co-circulating with the current polymer 200 Escudo note.
  • Main new security feature is a 2 mm wide, rainbow fluorescence, magnetic security thread.
